Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Ahilyanagar

Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Ahilyanagar was established on 01/10/1954. At the grain yard of Ahilyanagar, arrivals of grain produce are received from the districts of Beed, Sambhajinagar, and Pune. Also, dried chillies are received in large quantities from Andhra Pradesh. Ahilyanagar is a major market for green gram (moong), tamarind, and jaggery. At present, the main yard has a grain market, fruit and vegetable market, flower market, and fodder market in operation. In some villages of Nagar Taluka, floriculture is carried out on a large scale; therefore, the committee has allotted shops to the sons of some farmers in the vegetable section and started a flower market there, due to which farmers are getting good economic benefits from floriculture. At the main yard in Ahilyanagar, onions arrive in large quantities from the districts of Beed, Sambhajinagar, Nashik, and Pune; due to this, the said yard was becoming insufficient for business purposes. Also, on onion auction days, heavy vehicle congestion used to occur throughout Ahilyanagar city, causing complete road blockages; therefore, at the request of farmers, the market committee purchased 29 acres of land at Nepti and constructed an onion grading shed of 72,000 square feet there. Out of the total 29 acres, the said onion shed has been constructed on 21 acres and 423 trader and commercial shops have been developed. Thereafter, 7 acres of land remained vacant in the Nepti sub-market yard, and since the existing space at Nepti sub-market is insufficient, a new onion auction shed, internal roads, electricity supply, compound wall, etc. will be developed on the adjacent remaining 7 acres. Along with this, due to the construction of the onion grading shed, farmers’ produce is protected from sun, wind, and rain. The annual arrival of onion produce at the Nepti sub-market yard is 33 to 35 lakh quintals. Therefore, construction of the said shed is necessary. The expected cost of the said shed is Rs. 13 crore 72 lakh.

Also, the market committee owns 11 acres of land at Chichondi Patil. Farmers had repeatedly demanded the establishment of a grain market and a livestock market at that location and had repeatedly submitted requests to Hon. MLA Shri Shivajirao Kardile Saheb. Accordingly, under the guidance of Hon. MLA Shri Shivajirao Kardile Saheb, the present Board of Directors has resolved to establish a grain market and a livestock market at village Chichondi Patil. As per the estimate, the expected cost for this is Rs. 10.26 crore.

In the present situation, the income for the year 2024–2025 has reached Rs. 23 crore 25 lakh. Also, the committee owns land measuring 28 acres at the main market yard in Ahilyanagar city, 29 acres at the Nepti sub-market, and 11 acres at the Chichondi Patil sub-market yard.

The main market yard has two sections, namely the grain section and the vegetable section, while regular trading of onion produce is carried out at the Nepti sub-market yard. From all these three sections, the market committee has received income from market fees and shop rent in the previous year as follows.

Financial Year Annual Income (Rs.) Increase (Rs.) Deficit (Rs.)
2024–25 23,25,59,717.27 20,08,93,429.50 3,16,66,287.77

Due to the arrivals of produce received by the market committee, the committee’s income from the said grain market has increased by Rs. 3,16,66,287/- over the past five years.

At present, the committee has an approved staff schedule of 138 posts, out of which 123 employees are currently working.
